Buckhurst Hill Area Guide

What’s it all about:

Forming part of the Greater London Urban area, this residential town in the south-west corner of Essex forms part of Essex’s Golden Triangle along with Chigwell and Loughton. It has a lovely leafy village feel with many houses built in the Victorian and Edwardian era as well as 1930’s properties. The area is a relatively affluent area partly due to the cost of commuting to London with larger substantial properties being developed in line with the expansion of the rail network.

The High Street is brimming with independent boutiques and eateries and has a vibrant and modern feel to it. In the same way that the TV series ‘Birds of a Feather’ put Chigwell on the map, Buckhurst Hill is often featured in the reality show ‘The Only Way is Essex’ with several cast members opening up boutiques in the area. Lea Valley offers all kinds of recreational activities and water sports and was a major focus of the London Olympics.

Culture & Development:

An area is known for its accessibility to wonderful outdoor spaces including nearby Epping Forest, one of the largest public open spaces in London, with a range of events throughout the year and plenty to get involved in, from walking, running and cycling to horse riding, angling, football and even golf. The Lea Valley also offers all kinds of recreational activities and water sports and was a major focus of the London Olympics. Roding Valley Meadows nature reserve is also nearby, which is famous for its beautiful wildflowers and wide range of wildlife. In nearby Chigwell, there are the 300 acres of the Hainault Forest Country Park with bridleways for horse riding, an adventure playground, farm and café.
