Bethnal Green

Located in the East End Borough of Tower Hamlets, Bethnal Green is a well-known hotspot for young professionals to live in, bustling with cafes and old-school pubs, Bethnal Green’s nightlife has a more vibrant approach than neighbouring towns. Historically it was a hamlet as part of the ancient parish of Stepney but has since been formed to be a part of Greater London in 1965. It’s famous Paradise Row Railway Arches are filled with cool bars and diverse eateries, giving its locals a nice blend of historic structures and modern dining. With a population of about 27,000, there is plenty going on to entertain the residents and visitors alike, Bethnal Green plays home to the Victoria & Albert Childhood Museum, showcasing the history of childhood toys throughout the decades and puts on a stunning flower market every Sunday. With great transport links on both underground and bus to the rest of the city, you are never far away from the next concert or theatre performance.

Shoreditch

Widely considered as one of the trendiest places in East London to reside, Shoreditch plays home to a lot of young creatives and trendsetters. With Old Street being a stone’s throw away, you are never far from the next best restaurant or a quirky bar. Shoreditch is in the London Borough of Hackney and Tower Hamlets. It will never be dull walking the High Street due to its colourful and striking graffiti art which covers two-thirds of the street and covers the walls and the shop fronts. It is now known as the centre of the art world with plenty of galleries, hidden bars and the majority of its residents are painters, designers, filmmakers and musicians. You’ll find that plenty of the pubs in Shoreditch have a history attached to them including The Ten Bells, where Jack the Ripper stalked his victims and The Carpenter’s Arms. This pub was once owned by the Kray twins, notorious gangsters. If you’re looking for authenticity, you should look to give Brick Lane’s Sunday market a miss and try Hoxton Market instead as this market is hailed as an authentic East End experience.
