Bow, Bromley by Bow Area Guide

Bow

Bow is located in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets in the East End. “Bow” is an abbreviation of the medieval name Stratford-atte-Bow which was what the district was formerly called. Bow is a largely residential area that is home to the “true cockneys” (the criteria for being a true cockney is to be born within earshot of the Bow Bells (St Mary-le-Bow Church)). Bow has been transformed in recent years thanks to the development within the ‘Golden Triangle’ area. From stunning Victorian houses and converted industrial buildings to new build apartments by the waterfront, there is plenty on offer for the young professionals, hipsters and students that have chosen to reside here. Getting to City couldn’t be easier with Bow having its own Hammersmith & City and District Underground Services. There is a DLR station at Bow Church and plenty of buses that will take you to the city in just over 15 minutes! Bow has 4 Primary Schools and 1 Secondary School but lots more in surrounding areas.

Bromley-by-Bow

Bromley-by-Bow, or just Bromley as it is widely known, is in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and Newham, this is a separate area to Bow. It lies just 12 miles from Central London but it couldn’t be more different, full of trees and greenery, one would think they are in the countryside. Kent Downs is located in Bromley and this makes it the only London Borough to include an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The district has an impressive array of shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes, totalling to over 300! Entertainment is also a large part of what Bromley has to offer, this includes the Churchill Theatre, which plays regular national tours. Property is very diverse in Bromley, you’ll be able to find something to suit everyone here, with pretty Victorian Cottages and 1920s semi-detached properties to modern apartment blocks and terraced houses. Bromley High Street is host to the popular open-air market on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Bromley has 21 Primary Schools and 5 Secondary Schools, so lots to choose from.
